James Shannon Housing Program Manager

James has a deep connection to the justice system, having spent over 27 years incarcerated. During his incarceration, he earned multiple degrees and certifications, managed a factory, and fought for prisoner rights. Since his release, he has worked in harm reduction and community support, providing outreach and counseling on mental health, substance abuse, volunteerism, and violence prevention. He connected with impacted populations through correspondence and organized reentry events in hopes of being supportive towards others seeking reentry into a society that has changed over time. Now James is focusing on providing safe housing for returning citizens as Housing Manager for Mass Liberation while helping them with finding stability and joy in community life. Guided by leadership from those directly impacted and using skills acquired in advocacy, relationship building, and workshop coordination, James has become a key part of the Mass Liberation family.
